HSGA Joliet Convention - Hawaiian Steel Pro, Herbert Hanawahine will be featured along with Alan Akaka, Bobby Ingano and Isaac Akuna. Three great days of jamming, "talk story", and ono-licous food + luau! Don't miss out!

Saturday
Aloha Festival Steel hour, McCully Square, Honolulu. As part of Festival features, Alan Akaka is producing a 4-hour show, of which one hour will be A STEEL GUITAR "HOT LIX" JAM SESSION! Another hour will be all slack key. Also an hour with the "Opi`i Pickers" (young Imua Garza on `ukulele), and an hour of Kamehameha School players and dancers. Show is 1-5 pm. Seating is limited, so get there early!

Fri-Fri
"Steel Guitar Week" at Halekulani "House Without A Key". This week of guest steel artists has become an annual Aloha Festival event. Guest steel players are on stage from 8:00 p.m.- 8:30 pm, during regular 5-8:30 sunset hour gigs. Each night features a different guest:

  • 9/10 - Jerry Byrd
  • 9/11 - Isaac Akuna
  • 9/12 - Hanalei deWilligen
  • 9/13 - Ed Punua
  • 9/14 Bobby Ingano (w/BB Shawn on slack key)
  • 9/15 - Hanalei deWilligen
  • 9/16 - Al Greene Jr. from Kona
  • 9/17 - Jerry Byrd again.

These are presently tentative guest dates. If there are changes, we'll let you know.

Our annual "HOT LIX Hawaiian Style" Ho`olaue`a
May 1-5, 1999

Biannual Honolulu Convention
Queen Kapi`olani Hotel in Waikiki. This is a time when members can come together to play and enjoy listening to steel guitar for 3 solid days of playing sessions. The play days will be Mon-Tue-Wed, May 3rd thru the 5th. Activities actually begin Saturday, May 1. Our annual "HOT LIX Hawaiian Style" Ho'olaue'a will also be presented on Sunday, May 2.

HSGA Members
Your discounted hotel reservations are good April 24 - May 17. See Fall Quarterly for HonCon hotel and convention reservation forms. Convention rates for members include lunch Buffet each day. (REMEMBER your dues must be paid current for the 1998-99 membership year to receive these discounts, and to participate on stage.)

Non-Members
You are welcome to attend convention music sessions in the audience. Rates are: $5/half-day; $10/full day; $25/all three days. Buffet luncheon is extra @ $15 per day. Hotel group rate is not available. Non-members may not perform at music sessions. (Since HSGA membership is only $26 a year, and you get 4 issues of the HSGA Quarterly Magazine, makes sense to join us, doesn't it?)
