Joliet Convention '97 Preview... Alan Akaka & Al Greene, Jr. Featured Guest Artists(Reprinted from the HSGA Quarterly Newsletter) HSGA Convention In Joliet, Illinois is Oct. 2,3,4 at the Holiday Inn Express on South Larkin Street. Convention Director, Don Weber says there are still a few Registrations available. "Folks can come for just Saturday, at a day rate of $40 for non-members, or $32 for HSGA members," Don says. All activities will be held in the Merchants Row meeting room. Saturday, October 4, the music sessions start at 9 am; time out for lunch (included in rates) from Noon to 1:30 pm, and MORE music until 3:30 pm. From 5:30-7:00pm there's a cash bar. Hawaiian Lu'au on Saturday night The Really Big event of convention begins at 7:00pm: HSGA's famous Hawaiian Style Lu'au and Floor Show. When does Saturday's festivities end?? "Last year, some die-hard steel players were still jamming in the lobby at dawn!" Don said. Folks wishing to attend the Lu'au MUST contact Don Weber or the Pfeifers immediately, so that the catering staff can be sure to have enough food prepared. For Lu'au attendance only, HSGA member tickets are $22; Non-member tickets are $27. Guest steel artists from Hawai'i at this year's convention are Al Greene, Jr., seventeen, one of HSGA's "Superteens" from Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i , and HSGA President, Alan L. Akaka.
