This video has been floating around for a few years now.

Rumor has it that all three necks are tuned the same.
The jumping from neck to neck is all showmanship.

He sure is an intense player with a very precise attitude about him.  The way he studies his bar placement... it reminds me of someone meticulously dissecting a frog. Wink

Aloha Aikane....
>From 1938 - 1943 Roland Peachey played an Abbott three neck guitar (Made in the UK with HORSESHOE pick-ups)
tuned like this
Although I USUALLY post tunings High to Low..

(Low to High)
D C E F# A C E (D9)
A C# E G A C# E (A7)
D C# E G# B C# E (E13)
Please note the unusual arrangement of the 7th and 8th strings in the D9 and E13 set ups. THIS IS NO MISPRINT these are the tunings Roland gave in a letter to John Marsden.
He had a valid reason for the "out of sequence" notes on the bottom two strings...he reasoned that the thumb could find the required note of the two...

After 1943 he experimented with various multi-necked guitars and tunings, he was playing a twin 8 with palm levers set up to give many tunings, and quite easily changed to suit any requirement...also bear in mind that studio recordings can have any number of special tunings set up on the least used neck.
Unless someone at the recording session takes note of the tunings in use,It may NEVER be known for certain, what ANY player used on a particular recording.

If you want to know what SPECIFIC guitar and tuning was used on a particular recording, an enquiry to John Marsden may yield more information. He said it was OK for me to post his contact details

Everyone looks pretty wound up in that video LOL.

One time when I figured out a couple of tunes in minor tuning I made myself this memorandum:

http://members.cox.net/swingbros/Minor%20Tuning.pdf

This presumes the original tuning was Dobro tuning (lo to hi: G B D G B D) and was changed to Bm tuning (lo to hi: F# B D F# B D).

Someone might find this useful.

Craig.

I am surprised that, no one seems to have noticed the pianist in that clip, that was Harry Brooker who, is later in the clip, transposed with Peachey by some nifty camera work, but, lets face it, Peachey did push the Hawaiian stuff to the forefront with his unusual style of playing, with regard to his showmanship, this was and is, part of the game, if you do not like it, simply close your eyes but, keep your ears open, seems to be a bit of presight on someones part with regard to the transposing on the clip because Brooker followed Peachey into the SG seat with the Mendelsohn show.            Ken Ufton,

Never underestimate Mr. Peachey, any man that can remember EXACTLY how he played on a record and then mime the exact same moves on camera is no slouch !!

A link to some of his recordings. N.B. Just for "Educational Purposes"

Craig, with 287 hits, I'd say more than a few have found your chart instructive. I certainly did. Thanks.  Smiley

The latest news is that contrary to earlier belief, the Three necked pre war Abbott Guitar with the Rickenbacker Horseshoe pickups (specially imported by Henri Selmer and Co.) has been located and is for sale. !!
