Inspired by Gerald Ross' version just posted, I thought that it may be of some use to post the COMPLETE tune. No slight on Ger, the Hawaiians and MOST recordings omit the middle section.
So just for posterity :-

Very nice Basil!  A big thanks for the Tab.  I worked on it today and really enjoyed it.  That A7 slant is pretty tough.  Sure would like to hear how the second part sounds.

Vangary, thanks, I know that slant is a bugger, but we HAVE to try to raise the bar somewhat !!

The middle is in this version :- Sleepy Lagoon

This is NOT the version as tabbed because it's played on a "Pedal" guitar.

Ooops I think I put my foot in it !!

I like the second part and you play it very well!  I can see why others have left it off though.  It is complicated and a bit distracting melody-wise from the the first part which tells the whole story.

Are you playing it on your Fender 1000?  It's OK with me and 40.2% of our members (http://www.hsga.org/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1155450562) if you stick your foot in it or on it, you have to, to push the pedals  Wink  The A7 slant is much easier if you have one that lowers the G string.  The standard pedals on C6th tuning make quick work of the slants in the second part also.

I like the fact that this is an Hawaiian Steel Guitar Forum and not just for Steel Without Pedals  Smiley

It seems to me that Sleepy Lagoon has not been recorded too many times by Hawaiian recording artists in Hawaii or the US mainland.  Not including European artists, the only one that comes to mind is Alfred Apaka.

Do you know of others?  If so,- enlighten me so I can check to see if I have them and I can dig them out to listen.

This is a fine piece of composing, but as a song it lilts along until it hits the 'nightingales and rose.' Then its like the bottom dropped out of the cutlery drawer. Are there nightingales and roses in the Hawaiian Islands, or is this lagoon beyond the Tropics?

I do believe there are Nightingales and Roses in Hawaii, and so does Jack Lawrence the AMERICAN lyricist who wrote the words.

The story told by Jack Lawrence (the Lyricist)

Wally, I'll find the other versions as soon as I finish printing the new copy of aloha Dream.

In the meantime, listen to this version and TRY to count 3/4 :- Doris Day

Bas, The only female that comes to mind that, I would think would do that, is, Belva Dickerson, even at that, it would be IMHO, not a very good example of her playing, she had a lot of Sol's ideas in her playing, come on Bas, my finger nails are down to my knuckles, KU.
