Waikiki Chickadee - Jerry Byrd (A6)

I realize A6 isn't a terribly popular tuning on this board.  Still, I post these tabs in the hope I'll make a few converts...

Tab - My Little Chickadee

Don Kona Woods posted the video to the SGF and then, in response to this very excellent video of Jerry playing a tricone, I posted the tab on the Tab section of the SGF.  I think there's at least a few A6 enthusiasts on that board.

I encourage everyone on this board to give A6 a try.  IMHO it's the best of 2 worlds: the upper 3 strings form the major triad similar to Dobro tuning, the bottom 3 strings include a 6th tone making it a 6th tuning.  As I recall Jeff Au Hoy pointing out on another thread, if you place a resonator capo on the third fret of a guitar tuned to A6, you now have C6.

And might I add: it's a better C6.  A C6 a la Joaquin Murphy with the 5th tone on top (although he didn't confine himself to 6 strings and, similar to a ukulele, his "lowest" string was actually tuned high).

Anyway, you might enjoy it.  Thank you, Don, for sharing these videos.  Note: and thank you David Matzenik for setting me straight on the name to this piece Smiley

Thanks Craig for all your hard work on this Tab. Cool

I will be playing it, so your labors are not in vain.

Keep up the good work.

Just a note Craig.  It would be helpful if you would enlarge the font one more notch and/or put the font in a bold print.  It will be easier reading for us old people.
Aloha, Smiley

Don, I'd like to because I too have trouble reading it sometimes.  Unfortunately, I switched to Guitar Pro after I started having all those problems with PowerTab.  Loads of bells and whistles but, unfortunately, Guitar Pro doesn't allow you to enlarge the font. cry

I think the actual title of the Melvin Paoa song is Waikiki Chickadee. Jerry Byrd may have been a WC Fields fan, I know I am. I first heard this tune by George Tautu Archer and his Pagans. Great record. I like A6th, and I think anyone who is interested in that tuning should try to get a copy of the Billy Hew Len / Hal Smith Archive CD where he discusses it at great length. Once again, Craig, you've done a masterful job of Transcribing.

Waikiki Chickadee..... Shocked Grin?  Of course!!  That makes so much sense!!  It even rhymes.  I love those old tunes that would work a pun into the title.

Note: At some point I'll go back and change the title to the tab .pdf file.  Thank you, David Smiley.
